Hazing Prevention
At VCU, students are encouraged to join organizations as a way to meet fellow Rams, explore their interests, and learn new skills. When joining a VCU organization, students should be welcomed warmly, embraced for who they are, and respected with dignity. No Ram should be demeaned or harmed while trying to find their place with the VCU community.
As an unproductive and hazardous activity, hazing does not align with the mission and values of VCU. Hazing has no place at this university, on or off campus, and is prohibited by the Student Code of Conduct and the Hazing Prevention and Discipline Policy as well as Virginia law. Additionally, the federal Stop Campus Hazing Act requires certain training and reporting of hazing.
Reports of hazing can be made to the university using our Hazing Reporting Form. All reports of hazing are thoroughly investigated by the VCU Police Department, Student Conduct and Academic Integrity, and the Office of Human Resources, as applicable.
At VCU, Rams watch out for the safety and well-being of other Rams by recognizing, intervening, and reporting incidents of hazing. Changing a culture of hazing is a community effort, involving students, faculty, staff, alumni, and families. Together, we can work to prevent hazing at VCU.
Read the Hazing Prevention and Discipline Policy to be aware of VCU’s expectations.
Know student organizations’ history to ask important questions when joining.
Join our student organizations to connect with peers and engage in your area of interests.
